Which Area Of Yufuin To Stay In

The main parts of Yufuin is quite compact and getting from one end to the other takes only about 20 minutes on foot.

That said, I would recommend either staying near the bus station since Ekimae Dori street is where the largest concentration of restaurants are located or somewhere closer to or along Yunotsubo Street.

Where I Stayed

I stayed at the Yufuin Akarinoyado although to be fair, it wasn’t my first choice. I’d bookmarked a handful of ryokans a month earlier, but by the time I booked, most were no longer available, especially during the busy months.

Akarinoyado ended up being a solid choice. I recommend their Japanese style room. It was clean, simple, and most importantly, just a few minutes from the station, which made it easy to drop my stuff off when I arrived early and to catch the morning bus to Kurokawa the next day.

The highlight were their private baths that you can reserve at check-in at no extra cost. I lucked out with a prime slot in the early afternoon, soaking my sore feet after a full day of walking, and just before dinner.

Having the amazing baths to myself was a highlight of Yufuin.

Full Ryokan Experience

For the full ryokan experience with breakfast and dinner, the Onsen Hinoharu Ryokan is a solid mid-range choice. The location is central to Yunotsubo Street and they have a beautiful outdoor baths.

The Ryotei Tanokura looked really nice when I passed by coming from the lake. It made sense since it’s one of the best ryokan in Yufuin. The outdoor bath is gorgeous, and if you splurge for their deluxe room, it comes with a private outdoor cypress bath.

Families and Groups

For families, Enokiya would be a good option, since they offer larger rooms with space of the kids. There’s also a private onsen that you can reserve.

Large groups who want their own place should definitely look at the Yuhuroten Toki No Manimani. The holiday home is right by the train station and has its own

For The Baths

The rooms at Pension Kirinko Toyonukuni looked simple, but it had a prime location right on the lake. Their onsen and restaurant opened right onto the waters, which was the draw for me. All for one of the better prices in town.

Near the Comico Art Museum, you can find the Yawaragi-no-Sato Yadoya, which has multiple indoor and outdoor baths to choose from. I was initially looking here since I wanted a good bath in Yufuin, over the particular type of room.
